Hi, This is Rupali. I am in love with a Marwari boy and will be engaged soon. But, my in laws are very conservative type and want me to wear a dangling type nose ring, being the bari bhau of the house. When I went to their house, his mom has shown me nicely crafted dangling nose rings, which she wants me to wear after I am engaged. She is asking me to get a nose piercing and ready to arrange a goldsmith for that. I am okey with nose piercing and planning to wear a stud but feel that the hanging type nose ring would look odd.
I am working as a PR executive in a private co. and thinking whether I’d look odd wearing a dangling nathni in front of my clients. I wear western dresses also. Do you wear nathni all the time and with all dresses? Do people like it. Pls. give your comments Sir / Maam.
Hello,
you can first get your nose pierced and then wear a simple one at the beginning. You can alternate the one presented by your would-be in-law when you are at home and change to the regular and simple one while at work ! The frequent changing of the nose steads would make you adjustable to the both items and you will look more appealing face even in a crowd! Best wishes,
No worries. I am a doctor and have been wearing nathni for 20 years now. I was pierced by goldsmith before my engagement and was given this nathni by my mother-in-law. I was adorned with a dangling nath keeping up with the family tradition. It is up to you. For me, I love to follow our family tradition and and nose piercing was natural to me. Since my marriage, I’m sporting nath without any problem. I am a working woman meet patients every day. The only things changes was the type of nose ring.It is our customs wearing nose stud. so, you can go ahead. It is our customs wearing nose stud. So, go ahead.
Ok, you convinced me I'm getting one :D

Dear mr.Iyengar,
I Am an odia guy workign in SAIL and married. I want my wife to pierce both her nostril which she has already accepted to do. But i need to know whether wearing on bnoth nostril is acceptable in todays modernised environment though In Odisha previously many women used to wear on the both sides. Plz suggest the answer to my QS"Modern india Vs Piercing both nostril in eastern part Ladies"It is not only in Odisha but also all over Bharat that is India, the practice to wear the nose rings and steads in both sides. This forgotton custom is slowly picking up and now even the latest fashion trends shows a come back! There is nothing wrong in doing so, you can go ahead and get it done the nose piercing for your life partner soon. This will also help and support the other persons wanting to pierce their both side nostrils. It is not jus a fashion, it is an Indian custom and practice from time immemorial. Wish you all the best.
Dear Das,
I am a Bengali working in mines in Orissa. As I've to stay in small towns and travel in villages, I saw ladies with three nose piercing and got very attracted. My wife also saw that and got interested to pierce her right nostril. She already had her left nose pierced during our maariage. I was also interested in septum ring that touches the lips. She was not agreed initially but later accepted. She is a modern woman but like traditional ornament. So she pierced both her nostril and septum at her late 30's and now adroned with nose rings & septum rings. Yes, my relatives was surprised to see her when we went home on vacation and she was very shy and covered her face with a veil. Now she feels fine and I really love her look with 3 nose jewells. I am sure your wife will also like the pierced look.
HI, this is neha, a classical dancer from an orthodox brahmin family from andhra . Its quite interesting to read each one of your experiences. I appreciate every one who got double nose pierced. Our guru suggested us to pierce double nostril and septum and atleast six piercing in my ears as these will be very comfortable while giving stage perforamnces. so i went to a experienced piercer, he gave idea of thanjavur style of piercing(all three holes will be in a straight line). he appled balm that made my nose bit numb, then he pierced from one end to other and inserted a long post. there wont be any threads to the jewelly from inside the nose and septum will hung to the post. I liked it very much though the piercing is very very painful and i almost fainted when it came to the jewellery insertion. Its very easy to clean the pierced holes as it is very easy to remove post by unscrewing on oneside of the nose. This happend before my marriage and now my husband is very sportive and loves me to wear all the three all the time. i love to wear silver toe rings( 3 in each feet),anklets, magalasutra. Do any one have this kind of piercing.Do u got ur ears pierced at the same time when ur getting ur septum thinge?Hello Neha Sapri,

Hello every one,
Nice to get some response to my post. The attire & ornaments of the modern people has changed a lot. Its nice to have a modern mentality but in the case of dressing we should not forget the traditional part which has been in our blood. Whatever our earlier people have done we are simply omitting the things in the name of fashion. I think a person having traditional dressings with modern mentality As Mr Roy had mentioned about his beloved partner can lead a prosperous life as others do. Wearing nose ornament on both sides especially in Odisha was very common even in some part of Odisha its still there. But am confused about why people of current years dont recognise the thing that has been our culture.
I deeply admire the mentality of the people either from tamil nadu or AP where they have kept the tradition with them and exelling a lot in their respective professional lives.
its very difficult to make understand a college going girl nowadays to wear nose ornaments on both sides or even one side. asking them they simly reply "Its outdated".
I need to know whether a culture about dressing expire?
